Shintai Jiu - Jitsu

Shintai is a free form system of self-defense that teachers the student a very practical and effective method of Self-defense. Emphasis is based on structure, muscle coordination and form , resulting in dynamic strikes and blocks.

Advanced training includes aspects of traditional Jiu-jitsu and judo, along with combat theory.

Andrew Cherouvis - Chief Instructor

Andrew Cherouvis began his martial arts training in 1973 at the Taizen school of Self-Defense located in Seldon, New York under Sensei Vincent Miraglia. He continued his training under Vincent Miraglia at the Shintai School of Self-Defense located in Farmingville, NY. In 1986, he was awarded a black belt and in 1990 received his black belt third degree. Andrew continues to train with his instructor when visiting home.  During the summers, Mr. Cherouvis spends his time in Co. Clare Ireland where he trains as well as teaches with the Ennis Jui-Jitsu club. “Through my training over the years and the principles that I have been taught, the benefits of the martial arts are something that can’t be measured by the belt one wears around their waist. I feel that Shintai is a very effective system of self-defense, however punching and kicking are a very small part of what a student can truly learn and benefit from.” Mr. Cherouvis has also trained in Judo and attended various seminars in order to gain a better understanding of different concepts in the martial arts. Mr. Cherouvis is currently a High School Special Education teacher. He also practices yoga to compliment his martial arts training.
